Industries

Data for 4 industries. 3 have a full hub page; the rest publish their data through the API until they reach the quality bar: at least 50 verified data points from five or more primary sources.

Method, in four steps

How a number gets published

Nothing enters the dataset automatically, and nothing is published without its provenance. The pipeline is short on purpose.

  1. Discover

    Candidate figures are collected from primary publications: statistical offices, industry associations, regulators.

  2. Extract

    The value, the verbatim sentence, and the page or table it appears on are captured together or not at all.

  3. Verify

    An automated check confirms the quote actually contains the figure. Anything that fails is held back, never published.

  4. Review

    A human decides what enters the dataset, and every record carries who or what verified it.

Why this exists

Built to be cited, not just read

Provenance, not aggregation

Most statistics sites repeat numbers without saying where they came from. We record the publisher, the report, the publication date, the page or table, the verbatim sentence, and the date we checked the link.

The numbers are never paywalled

Everything visible on a page is free and crawlable. If we ever charge, it will be for bulk export and high API quotas, never for seeing the figure itself: a hidden number cannot be cited.

Disagreement is recorded, not smoothed

When two sources publish different values for the same indicator, region and period, both are kept and the conflict is shown on the record. Averaging them away would be a lie of omission.

Machine-readable by default

Structured data on every page, an open REST API, and a permissive licence. If you are building something that needs industry numbers, we would rather you take them from here than guess.
